Eating disorder related illnesses that are treated include: anorexia, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorders. Appointments provide ample time for thorough, collaborative psychotherapy sessions. Following your appointments there will be timely coordination with the rest of your treatment team.
Dr. Jennifer Zumarraga is a board certified psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry and she is fellowship trained and board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has over ten years of experience in working with children of all ages. She began her journey in behavioral health doing research at the National Institute of Mental Health working with youth with ADHD, OCD, and Anxiety. She continued her training at the University of Rochester where she was introduced to the holistic model of looking at the biologic, psychologic, and social aspects of each individual to fully understand how to best help. Her Child and Adolescent training was done at the University of Southern California and Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.
Jen was formerly the Medical Director of ASPIRE, After-School Program Interventions and Resiliency Education at El Camino Hospital. She was involved in the formation of this specialized program for teens in response to the glaring shortage of services for adolescents with anxiety and mood disorders and the lack of resources for their families.
Jen's professional interests include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and working with individuals with eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. She believes that in combating these illnesses, we must use the bio-psycho-social model, which includes working with the individual and family to address the educational issues, social/relationship difficulties, and medical aspects in order to treat the whole individual.
